NJ Ombudsman seeks Volunteer Advocates

Advocate Ad

The New Jersey Long Term Care Ombudsman  is advertising for volunteer advocates to be placed in Camden, Burlington, Salem and Cumberland county nursing homes and has scheduled a four-day training session in late April/early May 2016 for new volunteers.

For information or to register for a training session call 609-826-5053.

At this time, seven of 21 nursing homes in Camden County, and seven of 19 nursing homes in Burlington County, two of five in Salem County and three of six in Cumberland County do not have a volunteer advocate assigned to them.

Volunteer Advocates make regular visits to local nursing home and attempt to resolve quality of care and quality of life issues as close to the bedside as possible. Advocates refer complaints of abuse, neglect and exploitation for investigation to New Jersey’s Office of the Ombudsman.

In the video below Jim McCracken, New Jersey Long Term Care Ombudsman, explains the need and the contribution made by volunteer advocates.
